When you are a newcomer to the game you really must start by studying the basic strategy for Blackjack and by obtaining a copy of a correct Blackjack strategy card, to keep close to you when playing online.
There are a number of Blackjack betting strategies used by casual players as well as pros. There are some techniques that you can use to improve your success rate. Before you try to apply more sophisticated techniques you need to make sure you know the rules of Blackjack.
Most people are familiar with the technique of card counting, but casinos are on to this trick and ban those who use it. You can see how this technique could help you, since you can narrow down which cards are left in the deck. Being able to anticipate what is coming permits you to frame your wager.
If you’ve ever visited a casino you’ll learn quickly that any type of counting or recordkeeping is strictly off limits. Of course, you can keep track of whatever you want in your head, and if you can remember an entire pack of cards – go for it! But in reality anyone can use this technique because online casinos have no way to tell if you are keeping track.
The rules of Blackjack can vary considerably from one location to another, and these variations can impact on your chances. A common rule change is that which allows for splitting a hand, and this can make a very big difference in how likely you are to win. If the casino will permit you to split should the opportunity arise, this gives you a much better opportunity for success.
Another rule that may vary is whether or not the dealer is required to stand at 17. Your odds are greatly reduced if this rule is not in force. There are other situations where the rules can differ, these are just two that can make it much more difficult to win.
But apart from the rule variations which may exist, what should you keep in mind when determining how to bet? There are several betting strategies, and you need to find one you like and remain consistent in using it. As you look at different strategies you will run across the Martingale and Paroli systems.
When you look at these strategies you find that, these systems have very little in common. Using one of the techniques, you simple multiply the stake by two whenever you lose a round, and revert to the original wager if you win. You double the bet when you win under Paroli, and go back to the original bet after a loss. The Paroli betting system is focused on trying to take advantage of winning streaks and Martingale is geared towards breaking losing streaks. Both systems have some flaws. When you are following Martingale you need a large bankroll. If you start by betting $10 and go on to lose 7 hands in a row for a total loss of $1270 you now need to bet $1280 on the 8. round! Paroli puts a much lesser stress on your bankroll. Letting your initial bet be $10 and loosing 7 rounds back to back will only cost you $70.
While it is similar to Martingale and Paroli, the Parlay method can be a little more subtle than Martingale and Paroli. Parlay is based on gradually increasing your bet, so with a win, the next bet is the original amount along with a proportion of the winnings.
A device that can greatly help simplify things for you, by helping decide what to put down, is using a Blackjack specific calculator. These calculators work by recording all cards dealt so far, and works out the likelihood of the remaining cards being dealt, and matches this up with your hand. Having access to odds and probabilities can guide you in what moves to make.
However, calculated Blackjack betting strategies could never be accepted anywhere other than on the internet. You shouldn’t even try to bring a calculator or scorecard into a live game. You would very likely be ejected! You can certainly use betting strategies in any type of casino.
